Job description:
Gameplay Programmer (Unity / C#)
The Artistocrats is an established independent game studio in Hasselt focused on strategy games. We’re expanding our team to develop current and future projects - including upcoming DLCs for Starship Troopers: Terran Command.
As a Gameplay Programmer, you will work closely with designers, artists, and programmers to implement gameplay features and iterate quickly. You will learn from a proven, complex codebase and gain hands-on experience with performance-focused development.
Because we are a small team, you will have opportunities to contribute across many areas of game development. Our studio builds on an internal toolset that supports a data-oriented design methodology which leverages the Unity Burst compiler. This creates a wide range of technical challenges and enables you to work on features end-to-end, from prototype to polished release.
What you will do
Implement and refine gameplay features for live content and DLC.
Build gameplay features from prototype, through iteration, to production-quality implementation.
Fix bugs, improve usability, and help polish features for release.
Assist in playtesting, debugging, and balancing (including providing RTS-focused feedback).
Learn profiling and optimization practices and good software design practices with guidance from the team.
Writing robust and maintainable code
What we are looking for
Must-haves
Fluent English (spoken and written).
Able to work at least 3 days per week on-site in Hasselt, Belgium.
Solid foundation in C#, with a working understanding of algorithmic performance and 3D math.
Team-minded, proactive, and eager to learn.
Ability to balance efficiency with quality, with a proactive, can-do attitude.
Genuine interest in strategy/RTS games (you actively play them and understand the genre).
Nice-to-haves
Fluent Dutch (spoken and written).
Working knowledge of the Unity Engine (personal projects count).
Experience with C++ is a strong plus, as we work with manual memory management concepts and custom data structures.
A portfolio with game prototypes, jams, mods, or shipped hobby (or professional) projects.
Experience with 3D graphics or shader programming.
Interest in systems-heavy gameplay (AI behaviors, unit control, combat systems, UI).
Experience outside Unity (e.g., backend or general software development).
Familiarity with Git and iterative/agile ways of working.
What We offer
Full-time role in a growing studio making strategy games work on own IP.
Fair remuneration based on market standards.
Mentorship and support while you grow into larger feature ownership.
A variety of challenges due to a small team structure—your work will matter.
How to apply
Send your CV and portfolio/GitHub to jobs@the-artistocrats.com. Including past projects (professional or hobby) with accessible code is strongly recommended.
